A little story behind this art map:

I first fell in love with the Great Allegheny Passage while growing up in Connellsville, PA. My sister, Karen and I would ride to Ohiopyle, stop to get an ice cream cone at the local Dairy Queen there and make our way back home. At the time, we were ecstatic that such a trail existed and we could ride for miles and miles! Ironically, our step-father was a conductor for the B&O Railroad and then later Chessie for over 40 years. I often wondered what it must have been like to travel by train all those years ago!

Fast forward, and during the Pandemic, like most people trying to social distance themselves, this was a perfect opportunity to tackle the whole trail system to Washington, DC. I always had it on my “bucket list” and before I knew it, I was mapping out my game plan. I had two dear friends in Pittsburgh who were there to lend support which I am forever grateful. So, in 2020, I finished the trip in 4 days. Afterwards, like running a marathon, I felt like I needed something as a keepsake to treasure all of my cherished memories.

After a few years and much research, I put my artistic talents to work. What you see in this trail map are many of the landmarks, bridges, rivers and historic points of interest that sparked joy in my heart.

It was a magical experience that I will always hold dear. I continue to ride and run these trails. It helps keeps me sane and my creativity flowing - just like the Youghiogheny River!

Thank you for supporting local artists. Happy trails!
